Cannabis And Hemp

Cannabis And Hemp

Aquaponics can be a lucrative way to grow hemp and cannabis. It can lower your water usage and deliver a high-quality product free of unnatural chemicals and residues. Growing with aquaponics has many benefits including cost savings on water and nutrient additives, and the ability to achieve organic certification.  It also allows you to tell a unique story for your business, notably one of sustainability.

There are quite a few hemp and cannabis companies successfully growing with aquaponics and we have already helped a few achieve greater efficiency and higher yields.  We have also solved various system engineering issues to optimize system performance .  Fish can be an additional revenue source or a renewable and manageable nutrient source. We offer a range of services to help improve your aquaponics operation or help convert your existing hydroponics system to aquaponics.

We can help you with

  • Nutrient management
  • Decoupling systems
  • Fish management
  • Business planning
  • Site evaluation
  • Materials availability and evaluation
  • Water Quality Analysis
  • Mineralization system setup

Nutrient Management

Proper nutrient management will lead to a heathier crop and improved yields. Typically in aquaponics you will need to occasionally supplement nutrients to your system depending on your fish stocking density, system volume and the specific feed you are feeding your fish. In fact, it is probably the most difficult part of commercial aquaponics because every situation is different.

Unlike hydroponics, your nutrient solution in an aquaponics system will not become stale over time. In fact we have run aquaponics systems without changing out the water for over 10 years.  With aquaponics, you get an automatically organic nutrient source, which can truly set you product apart from competitors. Let us help you understand and manage the nutrients in your system.

Site evaluation

It is extremely difficult to design and build the perfect grow system.  There are many variables and options to consider, and more often than not the right decisions are not made the first time around.

During a site visit, we will go through your operation and make recommendations on how to improve or optimize your system.

Fish Management

Proper management of fish is essential to any aquaponics operation.  Not only do fish provide many nutrients through mineralization of their waste, but they directly supply the Nitrogen crucial to plant growth.  Roughly 80% of nitrogenous waste is excreted across a fish’s gills, predominantly in the form of ammonia.  The aquaculture system must incorporate proper and adequate biofiltration to convert this ammonia to nitrate, the preferred form of nitrogen by plants.  Adequate dissolved oxygen is also crucial to prevent loss of nitrate via denitrification as well as harmful gases that can be created in anaerobic conditions.

WE CAN help manage and determine your ideal stocking density, reconfigure or add proper biofiltration, recommend and implement improved solids removal, help with flow rates and pump selection, help manage and improve dissolved oxygen, and even design your entire system.
